Best Baby Bath Gear

This roundup covers standalone baby bathtubs and bath supports — the kind of product the AAP recommends for bath time. We compared manufacturer specifications and independent test data from BabyGearLab, rather than in-house testing — we are transparent about that below. This page reviews specific products; for the safety fundamentals of bath time itself — including why we do not recommend bath seats or rings that sit in an adult tub — see our Baby Bath Safety guide instead. No product on this page, or any product in general, is a substitute for staying within arm’s reach of your baby for the entire bath.

We compared manufacturer-stated weight capacity, age range, dimensions, and materials, along with independent test scores from BabyGearLab where available. We also checked the CPSC recall database for each specific current model, not just the brand name. Every product below is a standalone tub or an insert used inside your own tub or sink — not a seat or ring designed to hold a baby upright in an adult bathtub, which the American Academy of Pediatrics and CPSC have repeatedly flagged for tip-over and drowning risk; our Baby Bath Safety guide covers that distinction in more detail. We have not physically tested these products ourselves — every claim below is sourced from manufacturer documentation or the independent reviews cited at the bottom of this page.

Type: Standalone contoured baby bathtub, two reclining/sitting positions

Inside dimensions: 36″ L x 21″ W x 9″ D (manufacturer)

Weight capacity: Up to 30 lbs (manufacturer)

Age range: Newborn to approximately 24+ months (reclining position for 0–6 months, sitting position for 6–24 months)

Materials: BPA-free, phthalate-free, lead-free plastic; made in the USA (manufacturer)

BabyGearLab score: 70/100, Editors’ Choice / Overall Best pick in BabyGearLab’s independent bathtub testing

Strengths: BabyGearLab found it durable and sturdy with contoured support for the back, arms, and legs, and its long usable age range means most families won’t need a second tub.

Trade-offs: BabyGearLab noted a bulky footprint that takes up real storage space, and flagged the interior surface as more slippery and less cushioned than some competitors — keep a hand on your baby at all times regardless.

Type: Folding closed-cell foam infant bathtub for use inside a sink

Dimensions: 11″L x 7.5″W x 4.2″H

Weight capacity: Up to 17 lbs (manufacturer)

Age range: Birth to about 6 months (manufacturer)

Sink fit: Manufacturer specifies it fits sinks roughly 12–15″ long/wide and 6.5–9″ deep — measure your sink first

BabyGearLab score: 71/100, Top Pick for Travel in BabyGearLab’s independent bathtub testing

Strengths: BabyGearLab highlighted its fold-flat portability and soft, well-built foam construction, making it a strong pick for small bathrooms or travel.

Trade-offs: BabyGearLab found it doesn’t fit every sink, some parents’ babies outgrow it quickly at the 6-month/17-lb limit, and the securing magnets can come loose during use — check that it’s seated correctly before placing your baby in it.

Type: Standalone convertible baby bathtub with a removable infant sling insert (not a seat placed inside an adult tub)

Dimensions: 17.8″ W x 30.5″ L x 8.3″ H (per manufacturer-published specifications)

Weight capacity: Up to 25 lbs (manufacturer)

Age range: Birth to approximately 9+ months (manufacturer)

Materials: Plastic tub base with a removable fabric sling/support insert for the newborn stage

BabyGearLab score: 58/100 in BabyGearLab’s independent bathtub testing

Strengths: BabyGearLab noted its convertible, multi-stage design lets it grow with your baby from newborn through toddler bath time, with multiple included accessories.

Trade-offs: BabyGearLab found the sitting-support insert challenging to remove and the tub’s size made it harder to store than more compact options in this roundup.

Type: Standalone dual-stage baby bathtub with a non-slip base

Dimensions: 16.5″ W x 26″ L x 14.5″ H (manufacturer)

Age range: Birth to 12+ months (manufacturer)

Features: Built-in drain plug and an upright seated stage for older infants (manufacturer)

BabyGearLab score: 56/100 in BabyGearLab’s independent bathtub testing

Strengths: BabyGearLab called it minimal, easy to use, and easy to clean, with a functional drain that simplifies emptying the tub.

Trade-offs: BabyGearLab scored it lower on newborn comfort, noting the upright incline suits slightly older infants better than brand-new newborns, who typically need a more reclined position.

Type: Soft foam support insert used inside your own sink or tub (not a rigid seat) — a flower-shaped cushion, not a standalone basin

Dimensions: 32″ W x 32″ L, about 33″ tip-to-tip across the petals (manufacturer)

Age range: Manufacturer recommends birth to about 6 months, depending on your baby’s size

Materials: Polyester top layer over polyurethane foam, machine washable and dryer-safe (manufacturer)

BabyGearLab score: 64/100, Top Pick for comfort in BabyGearLab’s independent bathtub testing

Strengths: BabyGearLab praised the cushioned, textured surface for comfort and slip resistance, and noted it’s washer- and dryer-safe for easy cleaning.

Trade-offs: BabyGearLab flagged a real hygiene consideration — the foam can develop mold or microbial growth if it isn’t thoroughly dried between uses and the sink isn’t disinfected first. It’s also usable for a shorter window (about 6 months) than a full standalone tub.

Why We Didn't Include Bath Seats or Rings

You’ll notice every product above is either a standalone tub or a support insert used inside your own sink or tub — none of them are the rigid, leg-hole “bath seat” or “ring” style products meant to prop a baby upright in an adult bathtub. That’s a deliberate choice. The CPSC has issued repeated recalls and public warnings for infant bath seats over documented tip-over and drowning hazards, including several warnings issued as recently as 2025 and 2026 for specific bath seat brands sold online. The American Academy of Pediatrics is direct on this point: these products provide no drowning protection on their own and can tip over, and using one changes nothing about the need for constant, hands-on supervision. See our Baby Bath Safety guide for the full explanation of that distinction and what touch supervision means in practice.
